When FFXIV was announced during E3 of June 2009, several FFXI gamers were dismayed first of news of the game coming only to the PS3 console then of the game being available only to PS3 and PC. Some couldn’t help but stop and wonder, “S-E, where is the 360 luvin?”
Although at the current time there is no news of FFXIV coming to the 360 at its planned release date, it is apparent that S-E wishes to continue reaching a wider audience by publishing its up and coming MMO for different consoles and for the PC. What is currently stopping that ideal from becoming reality? According to the folks over at VG247, the main issue comes from the policies set forth by Microsoft for its Xbox Live servers.
However, seeing as though FFXI for the 360 was released only months after the Xbox 360 was released, there is quite a strong possibility that 360 owners will not have to wait too long for a XIV release date.

From what I’ve heard, it isn’t only FFXIV that is being held-up by Live. Square Enix originally had the game developed for the PC, then ported it to the PS3. They probably have features which require the user to browse outside the Live network. This is probably why Microsoft isn’t happy with it.
I was terribly disappointed about FFXIV not coming to the 360. But since I’ve come to terms with having to buy a PS3 and already have the money specifically for it. Hopefully SE gets their story together so I can turn this into booze money~
Ehhh for once you cant blame SE this is Microsoft being money hungry!
I always figured it was because the 360 couldn’t handle the graphics. When Last Remnant (which looks a lot like FFXIV) was released earlier this year, it *chugged* on the 360.
I’m betting they’d have to release a downgraded version for the 360, and they don’t want to bother with having to redo every last graphics effect to make it work at a good framerate.
Let me say that the Xbox 360 players are some of the laziest and least skilled players of FFXI. I would be pleased if they would stay out of FFXIV, but Square Enix would be foolish not to release the game on every platform they can.
but i mean the 360 version was released during a very bad time for elite players, and thats why they suck at the game. so yeah.. cant blame them coming in during a rough time in FFXI with all the new systems and awards and what not, not to say though that some ppl just suck at the game lol. but yeah im pretty sure its coming to the 360 just gonna take sometime
Call me a saddo but I was actually hoping for a Mac version this time around. I already play FFXI on the mac and 360 through Bootcamp so a dedicated mac version would have been nice.
Ok KEVIN lol…. I started to play FFXI right after it’s release date on xbox 360. now to this day I still play. I have 14 75 jobs. i took short way and leveled the rest to 66. I have sch and dnc 75, blu ect so i had to level the rest to 66, 75 would taken longer but still can be done. now i have maat’s cap, i am running a endgame shell. i’d say i’m very good at the game and guess what? i started soooooooooooooooo late yet i bet i’ve done more then ppl who started since day one.. all depend on your play time and interst, i vote yes for xbox 360. and yes xbox will someday either break sony or xbox breaks itself. end of story.
xbox 360 > all
Duuur. Uhhhhhh….when hasn’t it been about the money? The 360 is a piece of shit. (No doubts there, I’m on my fifth.) But hell, I still trust M-soft. I’d be happy to see a port for the 360.. if they want to be lazy and use that as an excuse..fine! I’m sure the effort would be worth the sales for the fail-box and its middle-class crusaders. [I say crusader because it seems the retards with their hands on the internet still feel the need to express the half-baked opinions stuck in their mushy brains.(@Kevin)] Skill? Seriously? There’s no comparison cross-platform and against the PC, on which a person can swap 30 pieces of shit so that their Tachi-Fuckoff does another 200 damage. Do that with a plastic controller designed for comfort. Good job to the other 10 people to read this~~Cya in-game!
what about the wii? hahaha j/k. I’m sure the 360 can handle the game – i also agree that xbox live needs to lighten up and stop restricting it’s hardware, ps3 has thrown that in their faces! And as far as the players go, blacklisting a huge percentage of players due to their system preference is pretty lame.. I want to see peeps from all systems there^^ unless they’re hunting my NM’s >.<
lol Mac version, do people still play with those toys?
The funny thing is I was hoping for a mac version too! oh well, I’ll settle for the 360 version when it drops…OR give up and buy a PS3 lol, either way, I’m playing this game!
@ Lol@Kevin
Try lvling w/o levelsync mofo
@kevin, blanket statements like that make you look like a shithead
Kevin has no idea what he is talking about i bought my copy of FFXI for 360 in 2008 i have 7 lvl 75 jobs and all but 2 jobs at 40. I hope they do make this game for 360. FFXIV will make them alot of money BUT there are MORE 360 owners then there are PS3 owners it would be stupid on their part not to do it. TONS OF MONEY for them.
There are two reasons that SE is releasing FFXIV for PS3.
First and probably most contributing factor being that Sony is a principal holder of SE stock, owning 8.25% as of March 31, 2009 (). They own significantly less than they used to, in terms of pieces of pie, but are still considered a principal holder which means that they hold more sway than many other owners – potentially enough to shift things in their favor.
Second is the Blu-ray format. I was unable to find any documentation stating that the Blu-ray was preferred as the media platform of choice for SE due to it’s storage capabilities, but considering that FFXIII released on 3 discs for Xbox 360 (supposedly due to cinema and texture resolution according to one GameStop employee I spoke with in a random conversation unrelated to this comment), the idea holds some merit.
With these things in mind, I’m sure SE has things to consider when it comes to an Xbox 360 release for FFXIV. That said, I am personally looking forward to an Xbox 360 release. I currently enjoy playing 2-3 characters (yes, I pay for 3 accounts) at one time using two 360s and my PC on FFXI (I call it Tri-boxing). If the macro system is at least as efficient in FFXIV as it is in FFXI, then I may consider doing the same in XIV.
Yea I hope they do come out with FFXIV for xbox 360 the reason I stated playing FFXI was because it came out for xbox 360. I hope that SE makes FFXVI for 360.
