Lalatubbies seems ok?
Small (TaruTaru), Medium (Lalafell), Large (Human Body)
So a few piece of fanart surfaced for Lalafella, but one thing I noticed, was artist don’t draw them with the new lalafella body. I was glad I’m not the only one that feels like its a little bit “weird” regarding the new Lalafella’s body model. I’m sure it will be fine after starring at it for a couple of years, but I guess for now its either:
- Your Reluctant to Change, loves Taru too much or
- It is actually very weird in general.
So some Japanese did some Photoshop, to see what it looks like to “fix” the Lalafella into a Taru size body. Not too surprise, it looks quite nice!
Obviously it seems like Squeenix already set that in stone so there’s no change, well at least we can customize it. So it isn’t that bad. Well maybe a “Small” will really be in a Taru body 
but it’d be weird to have Lalafella with such a height difference.

Expanding Customization
With many players that are coming from FFXI, we all know that this so call “PS2 Limitation” was Square-Enix’ bottleneck for implementing better and shiny graphics. The developer’s creativity was held back because of limited bandwidth and memory. With games such as Aion and WoW which provide highly-in-game customizable character, Square-Enix have no choice but to stay competitive by offering the same deal to the FFXIV fan-base. We now have better graphics card anyway, better connection and GB’s of memory, there are no more excuses for having only 16 faces to choose from for a FFXIV lalafalla.
So now that everyone had their chance to customize their “dream” lalafella (with photoshop), lets see what you can “really” customize just from the pictures. (The Top 2)
By comparing just the top 2 (which is FFXIV)
- Eye Color
- Skin Color
- Haircolor (which probably mean hairstyle too)
I’m hoping there will be even a face shape customization, face customization (such as a little freckle), as well as the “default” smile customization. I’d definitely take a sad face 
like the Male Lalafella
I’d also like to bring up that the nose in the Lalafella doesn’t seem to be as black/brown as before (Comparing Top 2 towards bottom 2). Both are equally fine to me, but I prefer the new one!

You know though, my tarus already kind of looked like Lalafells when I draw them >.> With the longer bodies and all.

maybe Squeenix got their idea from you! Longer bodies but the difference is, yours look better than their own invention 
i like the new one definetly! especially the nose! taru nose was always SO big they look like rats. now its like cute little mice xD!
it looks like they didnt wanna make a whole new body like they did with taru. but that photoshop from the jp looks like they were easily modded into a hume size..
i think the male lalafell is cuter :]
I’m actually really liking the Lalafell models the more I look at them. Like some other artists (and I use that term *so* loosely when referring to myself), I’ve always drawn my Tarutaru in a similar fashion to the body model the Lalafell seem to be using.
By the way- if you look their noses are still sort of brown-ish, just not as pronounced and obvious as it was on Tarutaru. :3
Well, they got the noses right this time, but the bodies are all wrong! It’s funny this post refers to them as “lalatubbies” because that’s exactly what I was thinking of when I first saw them. I can’t imagine playing as one, or even playing a game with them in it. o_O; I really hope the in-game model doesn’t look like a teletubbie, like this concept art does. The face is definitely a few notches cuter now. Anyways, they just aren’t the same without those basketball-shaped bodies.

I really hope their small size is a Taru. All the race stayed the same and I just don’t understand why Squeenix decided to change TaruTaru so dramatic.
Regardless, I think everyone will eventually get used to it. We’ve just played FFXI for way too long =)
also. i think their new size/feel fits perfectly with the theme and stuff thats happening in xiv. i like that they didnt just keep everything the same as xi… they look different, but i think they look nice :]

I actually prefer the Lalafell models. With the Tarutarus it always seemed like it was hard to take my character seriously, I’m not sure if it was the cute factor or how much like toddlers they looked, but I found myself prefering my Hume character. With the new Lalafell models I can already tell it’ll be my race of choice, and my only regret is the change in classes. Lalafell red mage would have been so awesome.
I think it would look better if it was more proportioned, ie shoulder width matched hip width. Maybe they’re shifting the Onion theme from their heads to their bodies.
