I thought everything at Gamescom was pretty much revealed, until I stumble upon the PlayStation Blog.
Although most are pretty much the same/similar, but here are the ones I like, mostly because their answers seems to be a lot more solid.
PSB: After E3, you mentioned there might be a way to transfer your name over from FFXI. Is that still planned – are you still working on that? Is there a plan on how you’re going to do it?
Tanaka: It hasn’t been confirmed yet, but we would like to give incentives to the players. First of all, FFXI has 32 worlds, and they may have the same name across different worlds, as I’m sure you know. Each name in each world has to be a unique; there can’t be conflicts with other players. However, when we have FFXIV, we still don’t know how many worlds there’s going to be yet, but players might have the same name if they all move to the same world, so there may be conflicts. So, to avoid that, what we’re trying to do is add a surname to their name, so players can keep their main name, but they can add something else to their surname – that way players with overlapping names can keep their names from FFXI, but they can add something on to it to make it unique.
PSB: Are they any games that you have been influenced by that have done the online experience particularly well, even if outside of MMOs?
Tanaka: We don’t have any specific title that we’ve been influence by or have done research on, but if we should say one title it would be Final Fantasy XI as we are trying to achieve something different from FFXI. Even though the game worlds may seem and look similar, the game and how we are going to expand it will provide a totally different game experience.
On the other other hand, we listen to the community, and of course they have much experience in MMOs. In that sense, we receive from and keep up with the MMO-based community.
PSB: Are you still planning a spring 2010 beta?
Tanaka: We can’t really say any certain timing, because the launch is planned to release is 2010. So that means in springtime there will probably be something at that point. We are trying to work as soon as possible, so as soon as preparation is done, there could be something earlier than 2010.
In regards to name, I’m not too worried about keeping the same name. Honestly I’d rather pick something else, and keep the adventure simple. However, I hope they really not put up a World-Pass type limitations when creating character.

Anyhow, so how about you, same name from FFXI to FFXIV?

Depends a lot on what other types of character customization they have. If they have a really robust setup (basically full customization of every aspect), I would be tempted to use a new character. =)
I’ll probably use my same name since I’ve been using it since like EQ 1 and PSO lol
In terms of race and Character customization I dont know though. In FFXI I was a Hume and in FFXIV I’m thinkin i’ll either be a Hume or an Elvaan. The hairstyles look basically the same as FFXI and if thats the case, that may affect my decision race wise. Though i’m very happy to see that you’ll be able to at least mess with hair color, eye color, and skin color too was it?
@Naroku
Yea, skin color and eye color was part of it. Hell even “face shape” is part of it
I’ve actually had different names for each MMO, seems like working out haha, dunno probably select something different for me.
What would be cool is SE will giv FF11 ppl some cool stuff for going to 14, maybe at least a, “customized” poster in ur mog house of your character from ffxi
. We’re talking about in-game poster
hahaha
Yea definently. I’m really happy that at least the character customization is all of that at the “least” right now.
I haven’t really heard anything about Mog Houses being in FFXIV again. Is it true that they are going to make a return? If so then I think a lot of people in my linkshell will be happy lol. My mog house was always boring because I was always leveling or doing endgame junk lol x x but one of my good friends named Leothedragon had like everything in his Mog House. Like all the festival rewards, the biggest bed, and just all this other random stuff like haystacks and what not lol. It was pretty cool when SE opened it up for other players to visit eachother Mogs as well. It reminded me of when I played PSU for such little time and not only could you visit your friends shop(if they had one) but also their room next door. One time I was talking to my friend Kaiten, and out of nowhere I got attacked by some player called the Toilet Fairy x x lolol
In any case, thanks for the info. Me and my linkshell have been enjoying all the updates ^^
