With a lot of information and scans being slipped out onto the net as of late, it was only time before Square-Enix would finally release an official update to their website. They delivered this today with new images and information on character creation, more information regarding the lore of FFXIV, and beautiful screenshots to tantalize our eye-candy taste buds.
A Story of a Realm Divided
Referring back to this entry (Details of the FFXIV Storyline from Famitsu), we know that the story of FFXIV begins ten years prior to the current events that will take place in Eorzea. During this time, Primals, summoned by the beast tribes, wrought havoc upon Eorzea while the Garlean Empire also sought to gain power by the use of technology and military might. In the midst of a battle that would lay to ruin Ala Mhigo and would further divide Eorzea, a power known as Echo arrives. This power is said to cause the souls of those who are touched by it to resonate with others. From this is born the ability to educe past experiences in a way that leads people to ‘see and feel them as though they were one’s own.’ But is this power a blessing or a curse in disguise?
Character Creation
After much speculation, Square-Enix has decided to give us a little more information to go off on about their character creation system. According to their website, we can expect for the process to be “simple yet comprehensive”. Different face types will be available, as will hair styles, skin tone, eye color, mouth, nose, and eye shape. A player is also able to elect which clan they wish to be a part of, and adorn their character with scars and/or tattoos.
Screenshots GALORE!

I really liked their music
got the “Recollection” feel from FFXI XD!
This game is going to be so full of win o_o I think it’ll totally be worth the wait. ^^
I had to turn off the music cause my eyes got too blurry to read the new story >_>;
XD; So I’m not the only one who gets blurry eyes from listening that song.
Uematsu-san’s completely outdone himself this time around, and that’s just based from the 3 songs we’ve heard so far.
exciting!! i cant believe this game is happening so fast. FFXIII and XIV right around the corner. brilliant!! i hope this game persuades the WoW fans to join.
i hope it persuades some of the people that quit ff11 to join!
I for one will join. I left FFXI stupidly for WoW. By the time I realized WoW wasn’t for me and that I missed my dear sweet Samurai, I heard about FFXIV…I…Can’t…wait!!!
being a full blown ffxi player since its release, it doesnt excite me at all knowing that my years of work is about to go down the drain to start all over again from square 1. doubt im gonna bother with this game unless they release something far more impressive than improved graphics.
I, myself a full blown ffxi player since release (ftw) look foward to something new. FFXI great as it may be, does get tiring and imo; the game went downhill after TOAH release. I for one being a Final Fanasy junkie have great hopes for XIV.
Thanks, I’ll come back again.
Haha, your site formats perfectly on my new iPhone, didnt look quite right on my old phone
Its good to see some good people keeping their site up, one of my other favorite sites quit working the other day for no appearent reason
Great read, I’ll have to check more of more of your articles. I keep coming back here without saying thanks for the thoughts you share, so thanks!. Keep up the good work
Thank you for the topnotch article. Best thing I read all day. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
