A little bit more info was released today about FFXIV’s Class/Job system as well as crafting being tied to the Class/Job (or so it seems)!
Updated: Added the Elzen and Miqo’te Race Pictures.
Class System
- Hume –> Hyur
- TaruTaru –> Lalafell(taller)
- Galka –> Roegadyn (without the tail)
- Elvaan –> Elezen
- Mithra –> Miqo’te
- Gria (Not confirmed yet, are in other FF series)
You can however, see the Elezen, Micott in this scan.
Job System
It seems like FFXIV will have four Job System, the brackets are their allowable craft (or it seems like so far). It’d be nice to put a gathering-type profession in every job though. But for now, equipping a hatchet will allow you to harvest, whereas equipping a fishing rod will allow you to… fish! It doesn’t seem like its limited to a certain class/job.
- Warrior (Swordsman, Archer/Bow)
- Magus (Enchanter, Sorcerer)
- Crafters (Smithing, Cook)
- Hunters (Gardener, Fisher)
Character Customization
From the writing that was being translated, it seems like you can fully customize a character, from head, to skin color, hair etc. Unlike FFXI which only got 8 models with a&b’s. Similar to other MMORPG, exponential amount of possibilities.
Job Changes
It also seems like job changes occur when you change your main weapon, and your weapon is tied with your character growth. This all seems like an interesting concept other than just grinding and exping.
So, who all will be a Lalafall Warrior? *grin* I’d really like to find out why Galka lost their tail, but maybe we’ll find out in the actual storyline!
Courtesy of BG, as well as Calaera for the tip!

This is very exciting bits of information. This will help lead up to the August 19th showing of the game… I can’t wait, I’m so very excited!
One thing I noticed: The guy in the Gatherer job picture is holding an axe. A fisherman wouldn’t use an axe, and a garderner would by only the largest stretch of gardening.
Possible Lumberjack class? As long as you don’t have to put on womens clothing, and hang around in bars, i’d be okay with it.
I’m interested to know how jobs like Red Mage and Blue Mage will work with the melee/mage split: would a character set to the mage but equipping a sword become a RDM or BLU?
Also, for those who don’t know, Gria is a race exclusive to Final Fantasy Tactics A2. http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Gria
Galka didn’t “lose their tail” because the Roegadyn are a completely different race, in a completely different fantasy world (Eorza/Haiderin).
yeah so different………
we need more ffiv news!
