Last weekend, Square Enix was here in New York for Comic Con 2010. FFXIV was on display along with other SE titles and the SE merchandise store.
FFXIV was playable on-site and many took the opportunity to try out character creation and gameplay.
SE also held several FFXIV presentations throughout the weekend. The presentations included the game trailer, video and a demonstration/explanation of several game features. Among the features touted were:
- The Armory System
"Hate rerolling?" asked the presenter. - Storyline
Touting the use of cut-scenes to help players feel more immersed in the game. - Battle System
"Dynamic" battle changes. - Theme Music
Answers, performed by Susan Calloway, will appear in cut-scenes central to the storyline. - Cross-Platform & Cross-Region
Here is some video for the curious. Quality sucks because we're no videographers, so - apologies!
Those projectiles you see flying during the presentation are t-shirts, btw. And yes, I did manage to score one. Competition was rough, a fight almost broke out at one of the later presentations!
The cameraman for the video also managed to score one of the controllers they were promoting and giving away. I'll be reviewing that for you in a future post.
So, yeah nothing new in the presentation to anyone who has been playing or following XIV at all. But it was nice to see the game out there and marketed nonetheless, especially in light of all the negative reviews. The crowd seemed energetic and excited to see and hear about the game. Hope at least a few people were convinced to pick up the game as a result.
I have to be honest - my favorite part of the whole day was the SE merchandise shop.
So much cute stuff, so little gil!
