• Open Beta Start Date Announced, New Prerelease Trailer


    The start date for the Open Beta Test has been released via the official FFXIV Twitter page. The FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test will begin next week on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 19:00 PST. That's 7:00 pm for you non-military folks. At this point SE only has few weeks to get this game in shape. Let's hope that's all it takes.

    In addition to the Open Beta news, a brand new prerelease trailer has been added to the FFXIV Youtube Channel. At 3 minutes and 30 seconds long, it features a beautiful song with haunting vocals as well as footage of the three starting towns. There are also extra, new scenes that hint at a little more of the story. At around 3:10 there's a figure <strike>standing in front of a nuke</strike> throwing a mega-nuke-of-destruction, somewhat reminiscent of a Judge. There's no telling who or what this character really is, but it's easily the most intriguing part of the trailer.

    Oh that and watching a dragon blast chunks out of the top of a weird ship.

    Release date for the game shows up at the end of the trailer. September 30 for the standard edition, for those who don't want to shell out the extra dough to play the game a week earlier. Actually, you can just watch the trailer below.

      I wonder who the mysterious figure is as well. Should be interesting to find out. The trailer had amazing music, and a real sense of beginning an epic adventure. I cannot wait for September 22!

      I could try running it on my laptop but I think it would choke severely.

      by the way, I saw a second twitter from FF XIV EN saying the open beta would start sept 1 @ 2:00 GMT

      Why is Square-Enix trailer text written so poorly?

      Millions of dollors/yen to make this thing and it reads like a really bad B-movie trailer. I would understand if that was their intent, but I believe they want this to be damatic and taken seriously.

      Maybe it's just me...

      The font is fine, and actually the presentation is very polished. The wording is just... ya corny. (Hard to find the right word)

      This is so epic!!! And the beta time begins in about 4 days! less than a week! :)

      Ok, enough gasming, so have we decided on a server that maybe the whole ffxiv blog community will jump on together? I'm leaning towards Kefka cause I hear alot of mid-westerners(such as myself) are going there plus, it's kefka, what a maniacal villain :D

      No plans yet. Server names might change for open beta and then for retail anyway. I'm definitely seeing where certain groups of people are going to first~ trying to figure out where some people from XI's Ragnarok server are going to and/or trying to convince some to join me wherever I go.

      Well, if all goes well I will start playing on sept 22nd. Thats a month to find out where people will be going. I'm going ahead and making the prediction that everyone won't end up on the same server. Its too hard because some friends will be on one server and some will be on another.
