I'm hungry. I ate my last sesame seed cracker, and I want to eat something but I don't know what. Or worse, is when you're sitting there gaming, you want to eat, but you are stuck with a party of people who are in the heat of things and feel awkward saying "Uh, brb for food."

Today, the Winddown will aptly talk about food. Food because right now the CE is out and I'm sure many of you are sitting at your computers, gaming away, and may or may not have food tucked away at places to allow you to enjoy your first days on the servers before the SE comes out without having to get up to rummage for food.

Personally, I don't snack often because its a hassle and I'd rather eat a normal meal. When or if I do snack, my favorite snack is fruit, vegetables with some ...

With the Collector's Edition just days away from release and the Standard Edition a week later, I'm sure many of you are already planning what you might want to do on the first day the servers open up. Pending there aren't any problems, of course...

Me? I've already figured out exactly the race, the name, job, server, and maybe even the starting city (I will tell you now it ain't gonna be Limsa Lominsa) I want for retail version. The boyfriend and I will start about the same time, line up our battle leves, do our local leves while we wait for friends, and then chain our leves as a whole mish mash of friends.

If it doesn't happen on opening day? Then I'm hoping people will wait for me the following day, as I have a five hour working job interview the next day starting at 8:30 a.m. It will be really great if they did, because it would be a great way to end what I'm hoping will be a good day. If not, I'm hoping to just jump back into the world that I've already started to fall deeply in love with as much as I had with Vana'diel and a bit of Rune Midgard.

What about you? What are your first day plans for FFXIV when you start?

Now that we are a little more than a week into the open beta, it is only natural that impressions are being formed for those traversing the lands of Eorzea either for the first time or in its extended glory towards the lands of Ul'dah and Gridania. If you are in open beta, tell us of what has surprised you about Final Fantasy XIV that you never thought possible!

A lot of crazy stuff happened with the ending of Beta 3— surplus exp, fatigue, producer Hiromichi Tanaka's tweet directing fault at "foreigner" websites, playing the waiting game for translations on Nobuaki Komoto's explanation of the surplus system on the NA beta site from the JP site, and then of course tensions from pockets of the budding community on whether or not to cancel their preorders. An interesting week indeed!

However, the Winddown isn't here to bring up issues that will most likely get someone's blood boiling! Here at the Winddown, we will talk about things that are just for doing as the name implies! Winding down!

This Winddown is doubling up as a Winddown and something we're setting up for a podcast that we will be recording sometime this week. Responses might be read back on the recording, so feel free to post now if you want a chance at getting your comment mentioned!

Now for the Winddown itself: We know there are people (men and women) who like to play as the opposite sex. I have quite a few female Tarutaru friends who are also male players in real life, and have known female gamers to play as male Elvaan in XI. ...
